Picnic Theatre Company Presents: The Candidate

On Monday, June 10th, the Heurich House Museum and the Picnic Theatre Company invite you to enjoy a picnic and garden party theater in the museum’s biergarten, 1921!

Picnic Theatre will present an original parody play adaptation of The Candidate, set in 1972.

What would you do if you could say anything you wanted to get elected? In this satire of electoral politics in America, the heir of a famous political family is tapped to run a hopeless campaign against a powerful incumbent Senator. Be transported to the 1970s with music and costumes on the campaign trail. The comedy reveals divisions in American politics and society that still resonate in 2024.

  • 7pm: Performance (approximately 90 minutes, no intermission)
  • 9pm: Garden and Bar Close

  • Tickets: $20, all proceeds benefit the Heurich House Museum. Bring your own blanket & picnic. Some biergarten tables and adirondack chairs will also be available for seating!

About the Picnic Theatre Company

Since its founding in 2010, the Picnic Theatre Company's brand of site-specific party theatre has been called one of the "culture party hybrids taking Washington by storm" by the Washington Post. According to the Financial Times, “The Picnic Theatre Company’s bipartisan players…spend their days running the country and their evenings running the show.” Picnic Theatre audience goers enjoy one-act cocktail and garden party performances of classic plays in beautiful and exciting historic venues, gardens and Embassies. Washington professionals, journalists and diplomats by day, the all-volunteer Picnic Theatre players donate proceeds of performances to historical preservation of museums, and arts and education charities. www.facebook.com/PicnicTheatre

About 1921, a Biergarten

1921 is a biergarten in our Castle Garden that serves a rotating list of fresh local craft beer from DC breweries and beer brands, craft cocktails and wine from the area’s best beverage producers, and Senate Beer, the museum’s historic revival with Right Proper Brewing Company. Gather around Oktoberfest-style tables and Adirondack chairs, sit under our shady trees or warm yourself at our fire pits and heaters, and sip on your drink while visiting HOME/BREWED, an exhibit in the carriage house featuring 1,000 objects from the Heurich brewery. 1921 supports the museum’s Education and Small Business Development programs. Open Wednesdays - Fridays 4-8pm and Saturdays 12-8pm. Stay tuned to @1921biergarten for the latest news.
