Early Bird Christmas Markt Tickets Now On Sale

2023 marks the start of a new decade for the Heurich House Museum’s annual Christmas Markt. Supporting over 1,000 small businesses since its inception, the small garden market has evolved into a key incubator for Washington, DC’s makers and craftspeople.

From December 1-3, 2023, stroll through the museum’s festive holiday craft market with a Glühwein in hand and find the perfect holiday gifts for your loved ones. This year, Christmas Markt will feature 50+ local small-scale makers, a mini exhibit about our historic revival of the Chr. Heurich Brewing Co.’s Senate Beer, children’s ornament making, and more.

The event will take place in the Heurich House Museum’s Castle Garden at 1307 New Hampshire Avenue NW in Washington, DC, which is one block from the Dupont South Metro station, bus stops including the Circulator, and bike lanes.

*Tickets are good for entry any day of the Markt. Food and refreshments (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) will be available for purchase at the Markt.

2023 VENDORS*

Vendors will be announced on Wednesday, November 1st through the museum’s email newsletter and on Instagram.

On Friday night, meet 17 makers that are brand new to Christmas Markt, the majority of whom are in their first 5 years of business - the riskiest time for a small business!

*Vendors participating on Friday night will be different from those on Saturday/Sunday. You may use your wristband to re-enter multiple days.

Please Note: The historic house will not be open for tours during Christmas Markt. Guided house tours will run Wednesday-Saturday during the months of November and December. Book a house tour here.

ACCESSIBILITY

Christmas Markt is held in the museum's Castle Garden, which has some stone and grass pathways - there are no stairs in the market. The bathroom is wheelchair-accessible.

The Heurich House Museum building is handicap accessible and has an elevator.

CHRISTMAS MARKT AS PART OF MAKER MONTH

This year, Christmas Markt is part of Maker Month, a month-long showcase starting November 1st. Maker Month will feature artisan-led workshops, free craft stations, Mini Markts with the city’s newest makers, and discussions with our preservation team about historic craftsmanship, all culminating in Christmas Markt.

Christmas Markt and Maker Month are driven by the museum’s belief that house museums should be dynamic and relevant to our modern communities. In 2020, the museum officially established its Small Business Development program to serve our small local manufacturers. The program builds upon the 130 year legacy of craftspeople and makers at the Heurich House - those who built the historic home and those who’ve popped up with their crafts over the last decade.

Christmas Markt and Maker Month are the museum’s largest annual fundraiser and they support our Small Business Development program which provides services year-long.
