Castle Blooms at 1921, a Biergarten

March 20th - April 14th

As the city blooms for the National Cherry Blossom festival from March 20th to April 14th, celebrate “City in Bloom” in the museum’s biergarten. Our Castle Garden is an oasis from the city featuring dozens of species that bloom all year round - to celebrate the start of spring, enjoy botanical crafts, curated decor, Japanese art, games, and a specially curated bar menu.

Get Crafty! Kick-off: Wednesday, March 20th 4-8pm

Our free monthly craft stations are back starting on Wednesday, March 20th! We’ll use dried flowers to create bookmarks and fold origami together!

Dupont in Bloom: Saturday, April 6th

History in the Garden 12-3pm:

  • Explore objects and see photos from the time Karla Heurich lived in Japan. Karla Heurich (1907-2014), daughter of Christian and Amelia Heurich, grew up in the family home at 1307 New Hampshire Ave NW. After her second marriage to Brigadier General Eugene L. Harrison, the family lived in occupied Kyoto, Japan from 1948 to 1950. They experienced the 1948 Fukui Earthquake, one of Japan’s most catastrophic events following the end of World War II. Karla embraced her new home, learning to read and speak the language. She also became a master of ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging. An avid collector of Japanese art and antiques, Karla collected numerous items during her time in Japan.

Explore the Neighborhood 12-5pm:

  • Dupont Circle Main Streets is hosting a Cherry Blossom Pop-Up market with 100 local vendors featuring a selection of artworks, pottery, textiles, wood works, jewelry, home decor, health and beauty, and more.

Blossom Bookmarks 12-3pm:

  • If you missed Get Crafty in March, you have a second chance to make dried flower bookmarks and fold origami. Free.

Every Thursday - Saturday:

Blooms on the Menu:

  • Using local maker Pratt Standard’s small-batch cherry blossom-flavored syrups, our bar will feature a specially curated cocktail and mocktail.
  • Seasonal limited release local craft beers from DC Brewers’ Guild members.
