Sonny Bono Park

In August of 2014, the Heurich House Museum signed a Park Partners Cooperative Agreement with the DC Department of Parks & Recreation to adopt the Sonny Bono Memorial Park, a triangle-shaped pocket park located across the street from the museum at the intersection of 20th Street, N Street, and New Hampshire Avenue NW. The museum has undertaken this process in cooperation with Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets, community leaders, and neighbors.

In June 2015, museum gardener Kellie Cox created a proposal that was presented to local supporters. The proposal outlines the creation and installation of a beautiful year-round garden with colorful low-maintenance plants. Enhancing this community space will create a more welcoming environment and visual appeal for this area of Dupont Circle.

On October 17, 2015 the museum hosted a Beautification Day to implement the master plan. Kellie led staff and community volunteers in removing top soil and dead plants to plant new herbs, plants and bulbs. Since then, the museum and its partners work to keep the park beautiful and safe.
